Statement of the Most Reverend Christopher J. Coyne regarding the Tragedy in Orlando

I stand with Pope Francis in appalled horror at the death of the innocent victims of the mass shooting in Orlando, FL. We pray for those who have been injured and for the doctors, nurses, and medical personnel who are caring for them.

Please find below the statement of the Vatican Press Office on behalf of Pope Francis.

“The terrible massacre that has taken place in Orlando, with its dreadfully high number of innocent victims, has caused in Pope Francis, and in all of us, the deepest feelings of horror and condemnation, of pain and turmoil before this new manifestation of homicidal folly and senseless hatred. Pope Francis joins the families of the victims and all of the injured in prayer and in compassion. Sharing in their indescribable suffering he entrusts them to the Lord so they may find comfort. We all hope that ways may be found, as soon as possible, to effectively identify and contrast the causes of such terrible and absurd violence which so deeply upsets the desire for peace of the American people and of the whole of humanity”.

ANOTHER tragic day in AMERICA. How is it that so much hatred can be in a person to slaughter innocent human beings? I will never understand it, and hope that if there are others in our country that think the same way, will be thwarted quickly in their efforts to destroy others. What right do they have to do this? God please help us to love one another as you do. Please be with the families and friends of the victims of this terrible tragedy.
