Daily Homily, Friday August 9
In the reading from Deuteronomy, we have Moses reminding the people of Israel about all of the incredible things God has done for them. This beautiful summary text is almost “creedal” in its recitation as Moses reiterates God’s great acts. This in turn he uses to prompt a statement of faith in God: “This is why you must now know, and fix in your heart, that the Lord is God in the heavens above and on earth below, and that there is no other….”
God has done this, therefore you should do this.
Prompted by our own knowledge in what God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit has done for us, can we respond in kind and know and fix in our hearts that “the Lord is God in the heavens above and on earth below, and that there is no other?”
